Electrical Testing

Electrical equipment needs to be checked and tested from time to time. Now there is various types of electrical equipment and various types of testing that can be done. So just what are the different types of electrical testing. Well you will find a good explanation of electrical testing at this hub.

Types of Electrical Testing

Circuit Breaker Testing

You test a circuit breaker to make sure that it will do what it is designed to do which is with minimal damage clear a short circuit. It works by opening the circuit at the phase-to-phase voltage it is rated for. Every few years you should check that the test meter has the correct amount of insulation strength and is also calibrated correctly. The test equipment should only be used by a trained engineer. Also make sure you test in open air.

Testing That Is Automated

Information about electrical circuits is tested using computers that analyze them. The computers are usually set up in such a way that they will test very specific types of electrical equipment. Set-up is difficult and expensive as it is to program the computers. You do however get the broadest range of data types with a computer-based electrical tester.

Burn-In and Backplane testing

Electronic components, such as capacitors and resistors are what a backplane tester is for. Electrical networking is also tested by this. Burn-in test equipment is used to analyze boards and power chips as these rely on power cycling, voltages and also temperatures.

Electronic Control Units

Testing units come as part of some machines and are called electronic control units. They work by testing various parts of an automobile. The results of these tests are then send to an onboard internal computer. The computer itself can send messages to the dashboard as well as change actual features within the automobile. An example message may be that one tire is low.
