Travelling by train is a lot of fun and can be an enjoyable experience. There are some safety precautions you should take though to ensure you stay safe and reach your destination. This hub has some great tips for safe train travel.

To avoid chance of having to stand the whole way buy your ticket well in advance.

Don't become isolated from the other passengers. Make sure you wait in the lit part of the platform.

Do not get to close to the train trucks as the train pulls in and out of the train station.

Make sure your luggage is with you at all times. Also if you have a handbag keep it strapped to you and make sure all zips are shut.

Take care as you step onto the train. Sometimes the steps can be step or narrow especially when you have luggage also.

Make sure you have all the information you need about the destination you are heading for.

Keep an eye on your luggage while on the train. You can put it in the compartment above you so it is close by at all times.

Do not be in a coach by yourself. If you are feeling uncomfortable then change to another coach.

If you have children with you on your trip then make sure they are well informed on what to do on the train and the behaviour you expect from them. Unless they need to be up they should remain seated all the time.

Make sure the train has completely stopped before opening the door. Be careful when disembarking as the train can still make sudden movements.
