History of the Porsche
The 911 is the most famous and recognisable Porsche ever made. Porsche however, produced it's first ever Porsche years before the 911. In fact the first Porsche was in 1938 and it was the Porsche 64. It was another 10 years until the first production Porsche was made though. This first production Porsche was the Porsche 356 sports car. The Porsche 356 was designed by Ferdinand Porsche and his son Ferry Porsche. This Porsche along with the one made in 1938 used parts from the Volkswagen Beetle. By the time the last ever Porsche 356's were made the engine was totally a Porsche design. I was in 1963 that the Porsche 911 was born. This was after some success had been had in motor racing with the likes of the Porsche 550. The Porsche 911 was an air-cooled, rear engined sports car, this time with a 6-cylinder "boxer" engine. There were problems with the initial design and internal problems. These were overcome by late 1963. The Porsche 911 has had the most sales of all Porsche models and has also achieved success in motor racing and rallies. To this day the Porsche 911 remains the most recognisable Porsche.
