How To Make An Igloo
58Make An Igloo
If you are ever stuck out for the night in the snow you might want to consider building an igloo. Maybe you are actually considering “living” in the snow, then an igloo will make a great home. Perhaps you are just curious about igloos. Whatever the reason, this hub will teach you how to build an igloo.
How To Make An Igloo
1. Block molds is the first thing you need to make. Even sized blocks is what you should aim for. Into a rectangular box shape nail together four old boards. There should be no bottom or top.
2. Mark out a circle shape on a clear flat space in the snow.
3. Now you need to make some snow blocks. Onto a flat board place the larger four sided mold. Into the mold tightly pack snow.
4. Around your circle form a row of large blocks.
5. On top of the first form a second layer of large blocks. The blocks need to be layed above the joint of the ones underneath, thus staggering the blocks.
6. On top you can now stack additional layers.
7. You now need to cut out a cap brick which is a little bit larger than the hole at the top of the igloo.
8. Set the cap brick on top of the igloo.
9. If there is any cracks and holes then these can be filled in with snow and pack it in as tightly as possible.
10. To make an entrance dig down a bit. If you build it on a gentle slope, then the entrance hole can ramp up slightly into the cave. By doing it this way the cooler air will fall out and warmer air will stay in.
