Installing Leopard

Leopard is the latest and greatest OS for the Mac. The system is amazing with some stunning features. There is all the usual goodies that you are used to plus a whole lot more. Once again Apple have done a great job. Ok so now that you have purchased Leopard just how do you install it. Well it's actually not that hard. This hub has the steps for installing Leopard.

How To Install Leopard

1. Verify that your computer can handle being upgraded to Leopard. Your computer will need to have a processor with an 867 MHz processor, 512 MB of memory, a DVD or CD-ROM drive and 9 GB of available disk space. Learn more about what you'll need to use all of Leopard's features at the Apple Tech Specs website

2. Disconnect any iPods, scanners or other external devices before attempting to install Leopard. Some people who have upgraded to Leopard have found that external devices such as FireWire controllers may not mount properly after upgrading their OS.

3. Insert the Mac OS X Leopard installation DVD into your DVD or CD-ROM drive. Double-click the installation icon that pops up on your desktop. If you prefer, you can insert the DVD and restart your computer. Be sure to select the installation DVD on startup.

4. Follow the installer's instructions once the window opens. The installer will upgrade your Mac to Leopard by default, but if you want more control over the installation, go to the "select a destination window" and choose the options button.

5. Decide how you want to install Leopard. If you already have a version of Mac OS X on the computer, you can choose to archive and install the operating system without harming your files. If you'd prefer to start fresh, back up your files and choose the "erase and install" option for Leopard.

6. Install Leopard by following the on-screen instructions.

7. Restart your computer. Start plugging in your external devices one by one, allowing your computer to recognize them. Test them to make sure they work. If they don't, visit the manufacturer's website in case there are any firmware updates you need to install so your hardware works with Leopard.
