Measuring A Waist

Are you wanting to know your waist measurement for buying new clothes or just interested for health reasons. A lot of people do not know how to measure their waist correctly and end up with wrong measurements. This hub is your guide to the correct way to measure a waist.

Correct Way To Measure A Waist

You need to locate you natural waist first before taking any measurements. To do this, locate a mirror and stand in front of it. Now you need to bend at your side and your natural waistline is where the crease forms. It will be below the ribcage and directly above your belly button.

Now you need to relax your abdominal muscles and be standing up nice and straight. Starting at your belly button, wrap the tape measure all the way around your waist. Where the tape reads 0 this is where you begin from. The tape needs to be level and also not too tight or loose.

You should not measure you waist over the top of clothes. Measuring over bare skin will provide the most accurate result. The tape should not be squeezing your skin. Your waist measurement is the number that meets with the 0 after going all the way around your waist.

For future reference you should write your waist measurement down somewhere. As a guide a healthy waist measurement for men is somewhere between 32 and 45 inches. For woman a healthy measurement is between 23 and 32 inches.

If you are going to be getting something tailored then let the tailor take your waist measurement as they are well practiced at it and will likely get the most accurate measurement.

Very interesting! I always thought that you could just base your waistline on the area that curves in, but for some, they may not have that indent, so bending to the side is a good indicator.
